About the club

SMU Climb Team was established in September 2005. It was established with the aim of sharing our passion for climbing with the rest of the community through the sharing of experiences and the impartation of new skills. Through The Lens of A Poet

The portrait of the climber

A typical climber is a guy. One stuck in the threshold of man and boy. Boy, because he laughs and grins in a childlike nature, with a mischievous tilt and probe. Man, because he is lean, but thickly muscled and long- limbed, and filled with deep responsibility for life.

His limbs are of utmost of interest. They form graceful lines, as their grasps from tile to tile, almost as if merely flowing from space to space. the only other creature akin to the climber is that of a panther; sly, dark and with a sleek, supple body valiantly trying to contain it's magnitude of quiet strength. He is usually found with a lazy grin, stretched out and lounging across his chair. There is a beauty about him, tinged with a great fear of potential within.

But the climber is more than simply the physical man. What strikes the difference is his attitude and mental capacity. He is one that basks in his own arrogance- which he deems as determination to succeed yet valiantly tries to mask his superior ability for the notion of humility- and even nonchalance. He chooses to surprise others by engaging in debates over the meaning of life. This in an attempt to be seen as a double threat, with as much lethal bite and physical thrust. Yet again, all under the feigned nonchalance.

The climber is best appreciated under his natural environment. He constantly changes, much like a clear crystal spinning in the light, throwing out a multitude of spectrums, each more intense than the last.
